Secunda

A 1914 lux motor with a 1949 Bolinder 1054 — and a televised 3,500 km cruise through France.

Owner Marjon Steenbergen presented Secunda on the original enthusiast site as a 25 metre lux motor built in 1914 and fitted in 1949 with a Bolinder 1054 still described as in excellent working order decades later.

Television voyage

Secunda undertook a six-month, approximately 3,500 km voyage through France for Belgian television (Canvas), navigating hundreds of locks. For the programme the boat appeared under the name Maria van Dam. Weekly broadcasts followed the journey — a public demonstration that a mid-century Bolinder multi-cylinder marine diesel could still earn its keep on a long cruise.
